In 2005 Gloucester Civic Trust’s Street Survey Group again started to note the state that the city’s buildings were in and enquiries made to the City Council about the prospects for St. Michael’s tower. Under the auspices of the Gloucester Civic Trust a sub-committee was formed in October 2006 comprising a group of far-sighted people who wished to preserve the historic tower. The City Council listened to their opinions and findings and under the leadership of Marilyn Champion in 2007 the enthusiasts felt confident that the tower could be put to good use and saved.
