St Michael’s Tower

We’re currently working to conserve and convert St Michael’s Tower into a heritage-based arts and events hub for Gloucester. The aim is for local communities to have fun finding out about their city, and for visitors to appreciate an untapped source of local heritage and culture rarely seen before. Due to open June 2009.

The Old Crypt School Room

Gloucester Civic Trust is actively looking at ways of saving this unique and historic part of our city’s education system – established in 1539 – which pioneered education in Gloucester. We’re in the process of negotiations and seeking funding for the work.

Plaques and Monuments: Heritage for Health

Gloucester Civic Trust has plans to commemorate Gloucester Day, which marks a turning point in English history. On 5 September 1643 the Gloucester Parliamentarian forces were held under siege behind the city walls and bravely fought off the king’s army. The army fled and the course of history was changed forever, with the beheading of Charles 1.

We will be commissioning a statue of Colonel Massey who successfully led the Parliamentarians in Gloucester.
